The Fear of ‘What if”
Have you ever heard the old saying, “Why put off tomorrow what you can do today?” For the past few days, I’ve asked myself that question over and over again. There are so many thoughts I have, so many ideas, so many things that I want to do. Why haven’t I started? Or if I have started, why haven’t I finished it? As I reflect and think about my “unfinished business”, I ask myself the question, “What’s really holding me back from giving these things my full attention? The simple answer is…ME.
If you don’t start Living your dream NOW, then When?
Although I am a recovering procrastinator, I know that I am not alone. There are so many people, like me, who want to do bigger, better, more exciting things, but unfortunately, they stay in their comfort zone, with the main culprit being fear. Fear of the unknown, fear of the what ifs, with the biggest what if being “What if I fail?”
Now I ask you, what could be the worst thing that happened if you failed? Is it that, you won’t have enough money to support your family? Or you won’t be able to continue to live the unhappy life that you’re living? Or is it that you won’t have the acceptance of those who you think really care about you? Really…? What is the worst thing that could happen? Would it kill you? Would it hurt a relationship? Would it bring you ridicule? Would your family abandon you? More than likely, none of things would happen.
