As I was riding down the highway today, I noticed an ad displayed by the MS Blood Services organization. The sign wasn’t elaborate, no pictures, no fancy letters, just simple and to the point. It read: SEVERE BLOOD SHORTAGE……please call…and it gave the number. When I saw the sign, I immediately reflected on the number of times I needed a blood transfusion to save my life and the life of many of my loved ones.
Think about it, how many people do you know who has received a LIFE SAVING blood transfusion, as a result of an accident, illness or emergency situation? I can almost guarantee you that 1 out of every 10 people that you know and love has received a blood transfusion at some point in their lives. These people are still with you today because someone made the sacrifice to donate blood.
Often times we ask ourselves, “What can I do to get involved, help my community, help someone in need?” The majority of the time, the answer is simple, and right under our nose.
Taking a few minutes out of your day to save a life would make a huge impact on someone else’s life. It might even be the difference between life and death. I know that everyone can’t donate blood, due to other reasons, such as health restrictions, but for those of you who can…… DO. GIVE. Help to save a life.
For others who can’t donate blood -there are many other ways that you can give, get involved and give back.
We can think that our situation is so bad and it can’t get any worse, but in reality, there is someone out there who may be going through something that’s just a little bit worse than you.
If you can’t give blood today, give something —your time, your talents, a hug or a smile can go a very long way.
Let’s help to heal by serving and giving. Let’s “Be the change we wish to see in the world.”
Remember, the smallest things, can make the BIGGEST DIFFERENCE. BE the DIFFERENCE!
